LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif imposed a complete ban on the Basant festival on Tuesday.

In a message posted on Twitter, Shehbaz said that no one would be allowed to play with the lives of people and concerned District Police Officer would be held responsible in case a violation is reported.

Earlier today, it was reported that Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah said that the Government of Punjab could not permit a ‘throat-cutting kite flying festival’.

The festival was banned in Punjab in 2007 owing to deaths caused by sharply polished threads used to fly kites.
